Good Morning Pages

In the first part of the book, Julia shares her personal story and the journey that led to writing it. She introduces the basic principles and tools that form the foundation of her method. And then, she had me sign the Creativity Contract. I appreciate a little accountability in a challenge like this, so I welcomed the commitment. Even better, I’m not doing this alone. The group adds another layer of support and motivation, making the contract just one of two connections that keep me on track.

Introducing Morning Pages

The concept of Morning Pages wasn’t new to me. The first time I picked up this book, I made it exactly as far as I have now—I read the introduction and learned about Morning Pages and the Artist Date. While my memory of the latter was faint, the idea of Morning Pages had stayed with me for many years. Over time, they morphed into a kind of diary, and though I didn’t always follow the exact guidelines, I had been writing at least one page a day since I last held Julia’s words in my hands. And I loved it. Now, I’m excited to take this habit more seriously again. At the same time, I can’t help but wonder—will my love for them fade once I fully commit? Will I start resenting them a little? I can hardly imagine it, but I’m curious to find out.

The Artist Date

Getting used to "dating" my artist self is definitely new to me. I already spend a lot of time alone, but never with real intention—it’s more a necessity of my lifestyle than a conscious choice. If no friends are around to go out with, I simply end up by myself. I’m really curious to see how this exercise will unfold. I have a feeling it won’t be as easy as it sounds. Time is already a struggle—I’m constantly juggling plans and ambitions. Let’s see if this habit manages to survive in the jungle of my ideas.
