Istanbul as we know it...

Last week, Katja, Lea, and Kruck came to visit. As a result, I unfortunately didn’t have time to go to university and instead had to wander through the city armed with my camera. I have to admit, there are worse things.

I think I’ll spare myself the text and let the pictures speak instead!

You don’t have to go far to do sightseeing in Istanbul… Right next to my university, there is a fortress built by Sultan Mehmet. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day we went, so we walked down to the Bebek harbor and simply enjoyed the (nowadays rare) sunshine and the view. In the picture, you can see the towers of the fortress. :-)

The FSM Bridge (I didn’t know His Noodliness was so popular here...)
Whoever has been to Bebek and hasn’t eaten a waffle hasn’t really been to Bebek! Here’s an example topped with bananas, strawberries, kiwi, chocolate and strawberry cream, chocolate chips, and chestnuts. Mmmh :-)
Istanbul’s culinary side... at my favorite restaurant in Taksim
Ortaköy – an alternative nightlife district right by the Bosphorus Bridge
Early morning at the market in Eminönü
Welcome to Sultan Ahmet, probably the most famous district in Istanbul. Unfortunately, it’s also the only part of the city I can find on all my tourist maps...
A must-see for every tourist: the Hagia Sophia, a church that was converted into a mosque.
I think absolutely everyone who has ever been to Istanbul has this photo in their collection...
View of the Blue Mosque from the Hagia Sophia
Inside the Blue Mosque
At the Sultan’s Palace...

Alright, that’s enough tourist talk for now. :P After four days of intense city exploration, Katja and I joined other Erasmus students on a trip to Cappadocia in Central Anatolia... but more on that in the next blog entry! I need a bit of sleep before I fly to Antalya tomorrow. :D :D Student life is pretty exhausting...

İyi geceler! :)
